Adapting...Evolving...

I guess everyone starts off like this.....?

After 16years of studying and stressing over exams, we finally enter the workforce, and start facing the "real" stresses of life. That's when the study loans, the income taxes and CPF contributions letters all coming in at once. If that's not enough, you start to worry about getting married, housing matters, and retirement plans!

What stressed me during my study years cannot even compare to what I am facing right now in my working life. As a student, you are responsible for yourself. Not even your parents can dictate what you do in school, so essentially, it's all up to you to decide which path to take- to study or not to study, to finish that dreaded assignment, or just complete it sloppily. Of course you will be graded, but eventually, you face the rightful consequence and no one but yourself will be affected by it.

And when you fail in school, it's really no big deal. I used to think failing a subject is the end of the world, but now- after working for 3 months professionally, failing a subject in school is NOTHING. Either you work harder next semester, or re-take that subject. What's the big deal?

Now, when you start working, your actions have consequences on a lot of people. Your colleagues, boss, and clients will be affected by the things that you choose to do.

So what happens is you adapt...adapt to working life, waking up early, dressing up in formal wear (it's no longer t-shirt and jeans), putting on make up so that you will not scare your clients with your "natural look", wearing heels (I hate this part the most), and squeezing with the rest of working people on public transport (and risk getting violated by indian fuckers...see previous post).

Then you evolve....you become someone who has to take up so many responsibilities at one go. You really can't afford to mess up at work, since it will have disastrous consequences on many people. You can't choose to do work sloppily anymore, and you cannot choose to skip work as and when you feel tired. You evolve into a Superhuman.

SIAN AH!!!!!!

As said by one of my friends who is about to enter the working life, "work only has one equation: work=never-ending"

I must say this friend has fore sight.
